Meet Pierre and Susan Twer

Pierre and Susan Twer were college sweethearts from IU who have now been married for 39 years. Pierre is a regional manager for Abbott Labs, in their structural heart division. He is also the founder of Bolt For The Heart, a local non-profit organization that places automated external defibrillators in the community to help reduce the risk of sudden cardiac arrest. Susan is formerly a CPA and is self-employed, managing a distribution company for Zoll Medical. They have three children and three granddaughters. "We are blessed to have all of our kids and grandbabies living locally," Susan said, "so we enjoy a lot of family time with all of them."
Susan grew up in the Methodist church. When she and Pierre got married, they discovered that St. Luke's was conveniently located to their first home, so they began attending. After attending for a while, they realized they wouldn't choose to be anywhere else.
Early in their marriage and parenthood, they taught Sunday School, helped in the nursery and volunteered at VBS. Later, they were involved in the Shepherding program with Linda McCoy. They also assisted with the Back To School Backpacks and with the capital campaign for the current sanctuary.
When asked what they especially appreciate about St. Luke's, Susan responded, "We love the Sunday morning sermons-whether we are in attendance live or on-line. Our faith has grown through the teachings of Carver McGriff, Kent Millard, and Rob Fuquay. The pre-school program is also important to us because all of our grandbabies are enrolled there. We love that the church offers programming for all ages: children, teens, young adults, and older adults. And we love that our church is open to all, regardless of political affiliation, race, religious background, or sexual preference." Susan noted that her 91 year old mother, who watches the services online, said that a recent sermon opened her eyes to be more accepting of people who have made choices that she might not understand.
In the early 1990's, Pierre's job transferred the family to Ohio. They looked for a church in their new community and found that nothing compared. "Part of our motivation to move back to the Indy area was to come back to our church," they stated. "St. Luke's is 'home' to us. All of our children were baptized and confirmed at St. Luke's. One of our daughters was married at St. Luke's and one of our granddaughters was baptized at St Luke's."
Because of their deep appreciation for St. Luke's, the Twers have included the church in their estate plans. "We confirmed to ourselves that St Luke's is a very important, special part of our lives and we wanted to express that through our continued support with a gift from our estate. It is our hope that our estate gift can help St. Luke's continue to grow and be the example of showing the love of Christ to everyone."
St. Luke's is grateful for the many ways Pierre and Susan Twer share their time, talents, and treasure, and for their thoughtful estate planning. The church is pleased to recognize them as members of St. Luke's Legacy Society.
